Two bombs exploded at a hotel and a pagoda in Sagaing in upper Myanmar this morning following a series of bomb blasts in Yangon and Taungoo, but no injuries were reported.
The first bomb went off at about 3:30 am in a restaurant on the fourth floor of the Shwe Pyae Sone Hotel in downtown Sagaing.
“Forty-four people were staying at the hotel around the time the bomb exploded. We are now investigating. The military’s engineer regiment has already inspected the area for further bombs. We are investigating suspicious incidents and people through the four CCTVs installed at the hotel,” Police Captain Thein Swe told Eleven Media this morning.
About two hours and 15 minutes after the first blast, another bomb exploded at the arbour in front of the parking lot near the entrance gate of Soon U Ponenyashin Pagoda, in the Sagaing Hills.
“I didn’t notice any suspicious people coming to set up the bomb. As the bomb went off early this morning, it may have been set up at night. There were people at the pagoda during the daytime, so someone would have noticed it,” said a vendor near Soon U Ponenyashin Pagoda.
“Although there is a danger of bombs, we have to work as we are low-income people. We can only eat after we work.”
