MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines and Myanmar will be signing an agreement that will grant Filipino visitors visa-free access to Myanmar.
It is one of the agreements that would be signed in Malacañang Thursday during the visit of Myanmar President Thein Sein.
Visiting nationals from Myanmar are already allowed to enter the Philippines without a visa.
Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said President Aquino and Thein Sein will also be holding bilateral talks and witness the signing of other agreements on trade and investments, food security and agriculture, renewable energy, information cooperation in the fields of news exchange, radio, and television broadcasting, film industries, public relations, and printing and publishing.
The chambers of commerce and industries of both countries will also agree to expand business opportunities and trade relations.
Myanmar’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement of Myanmar is also set to turn over a donation to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the victims of the Central Visayas earthquake and super typhoon “Yolanda.”
Aquino will host a state luncheon in his honor of Thein Sein.
Before the Palace events, President Thein Sein will offer a wreath in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Luneta.
He will visit the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, Laguna Thursday afternoon.
Before leaving for Myanmar on Friday, Thein Sein will be visiting Cebu “to explore investment opportunities in the agricultural sector” and visit typhoon-affected areas.
