Hi everyone,

To all people interested into gem stones and people curious about it, please be aware that since last month it is possible to go to Mogok, once the forbidden valley. However, if you want to go to this area famous for its gem stone mines, you need to obtain a special permit and you must be accompanied by an authorized guide.

Application for such permit should be made at the very least three weeks before traveling there.

Please also keep in mind that you should avoid rainy season from may to october if you want to visit Mogok, as some roads might be impracticable and some of the mines will most certainly be drowned.

If you plan to go there, you could go by road from Mandalay (about 7 hours drive) or from Pyi Oo Lwin (around 5 hours drive).

Enjoy your journey,

Cheers,

Max

Wow that's interesting, I would love to purchase some gemstones there.

Do you know if it's still forbidden to export stones from Myanmar or is it legal now?

I read that US and EU already lifted all the sanctions against Myanmar except for the weapon trade.
