I am not sure yet whether I will have a lot of time to visit Mandalay and the surrounding area, so I'm asking your help on what is the most interesting thing to visit in Mandalay. Otherwise said, if you could visit one thing only in Mandalay, what would it be?

And if you could tell me why you would chose that place, that would be great.

If I have very limited to visit Mandalay, I will go to Mandalay Hill and enjoy the sunset as it is very near to the downtown and don't take much time to visit there. The magnificent scene will make me satisfy the whole trip even though it is short time.

We ourselves had limited time in Mandalay. If you have only one day you'll need to pick between a tour around the Ancient cities of Ava, Amarapura and Sagaing Hill or whether you want to explore the city, Mandalay Hill and Mingun.

We did both. However I much preferred the boat ride to Mingun in the morning which returns at 1pm. It leaves you the rest of the day to check out the city maybe Sagaing Hill and then head up to Mandalay Hill for sunset if you so wish.

Moreover, there's a place that shouldn't forget to visit. it's shwenandaw monastery. it was built in 1880 by King Thibaw Min and it is known for its teak carvings of Buddhist myths, which adorn its walls and roofs.

The monastery is built in the traditional Burmese architectural style and it is the single remaining major original structure of the original Royal Palace today.
