Any plan to go out this weekend? I've a place to recommend. It's Maha Wizaya Pagoda.
Just opposite the Shwedagon Pagoda’s southern entrance, you've the chance to step right into the next Buddhist place of worship. However, the Maha Wizaya Pagoda is much unlike its bigger and much older neighbour.
Construction began in 1980 and was (allegedly) paid for by Burma’s leader Ne Win, who ruled Burma with an iron fist for 26 years from the putsch in 1962 onwards. Similar to the Botataung Pagoda, the inside of the Maha Wizaya Pagoda’s stupa is hollow.
The light-blue dome is adorned with depictions of animals and painted trees grow up the walls.
