Pyin U Lwin

Must See Pyin U Lwin

Details

Address
Pyain U Lwin, Mandalay Region, Myanmar

Pyin U-Lwin (Maymyo), in the foothills of the Shan Plateau, was founded by the British in 1896 and served as the military centre for the Indian Army during British rule.

The city was designed to be a summer capital and charming colonial churches and houses still dot the landscape.

As Pyin U-Lwin rarely exceeds 30C, it is a welcome respite during Myanmar's gruelling hot season. Today, the city is known for its fruit, jams and fruit wines and has become, again, a popular weekend destination.
