Kyauk Htat Gyi Pagoda
On the opposite side of Shwegondaing Road, and only a five minutes' walk away, is Kyauk Htat Gyi Pagoda % (also known as Chaukhtatgyui Pagoda). It doesn't resemble a conventional pagoda because the Kyaukhtatgyi is actually a tazaung or pavilion) home to the monumental, 70-metre (230 ft) reclining Buddha. This is not a particularly well-known or even well-worshiped sculpture, although it is bigger than the reclining Shwethalyaung Buddha of Bago.

The statue wears a crown of diamonds and other precious stones. At the Buddha's feet is a shrine to Ma Thay, a holy man who can control the rain and ensures sailors' safe passageway.

Next door is the Shweminwon Sasana Yeiktha Meditation Centre where locals meditate. The monastery is also home to 600 monks who spend their days studying scripture.
