Must See National Museum of Myanmar

66 Pyay Rd, Yangon 11191, Myanmar

The National Museum of Myanmar has a large collection of art, artefacts and ephemera (open Tues-Sun, 9.30am-4.30pm, entrance fee). The museum's most exciting piece is King Thibaw's Lion Throne from Mandalay Palace.

The throne is 8 metres tall with decorative gold and lacquer work. This was one of the treasures taken by the British after the Third Anglo-Burmese War, many artefacts were returned in 1964 as a gesture of goodwill. You can find many embassies in the neighbourhood, and it is worth taking a quick stroll to see the architecture.
